The Right Fitting In The Right Zone
Bathrooms are one of the most highly regulated environments for electrical work in any property. The combination of water and electricity requires strict adherence to BS 7671 Section 701, which divides the bathroom into defined zones and specifies which fittings, IP ratings, and installation methods are permitted.
That’s why every installation our team carry out is completed in line with current wiring regulations, Part P building requirements and the specific zone rules that apply to each fitting, with full certification provided on completion.

Light Your Bathroom Properly
Bathroom lighting might seem straightforward, but it is one of the most commonly installed incorrectly. Every fitting must meet the IP rating required for the zone it sits in, and the wrong fitting in the wrong place is both non-compliant and genuinely unsafe.
Recessed LED downlights are the most popular choice for homeowners and work well in both modern and period bathrooms. Our team will advise on the right fittings for your specific layout, making sure everything is positioned correctly and installed safely. We also install wall lights, illuminated mirrors and demister pads, and can put together a lighting scheme that combines task lighting at the mirror with softer ambient light across the rest of the room.
The Right Connections Make All The Difference
An electric shower needs its own dedicated circuit, sized correctly for the shower’s kilowatt rating and protected by an RCD. It is not something that can simply be wired into an existing circuit, and getting the specification right from the outset makes the difference between a safe, lasting installation and one that causes problems down the line.
Heated towel rails and electric underfloor heating are both popular choices in bathroom renovations, and something our team fits regularly across the city. If you are having a full bathroom renovation, we are happy to work alongside your fitter or builder to ensure the electrical side is handled properly at every stage, with everything signed off and certified when the job is done.
Our Bathroom Electrical Installation FAQs
Bathrooms are among the highest-risk environments for electrical installations due to the presence of water. Electrical work in bathrooms is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, meaning it must be carried out by a qualified electrician or signed off by building control.
Beyond the legal requirement, incorrect installation of bathroom electrics can pose a serious risk of electric shock or fire. Therefore, using a NICEIC-registered electrician ensures the work is carried out safely, in accordance with current regulations, and with full certification on completion.
Standard 13A sockets are not permitted within bathroom zones and must be positioned at least 3 metres horizontally from the boundary of Zone 1. In most bathrooms, this means standard sockets cannot be installed within the room at all. Shaver sockets, which use an isolating transformer to provide a safe, separated supply, are the exception and can be installed within the bathroom at an appropriate distance from the bath or shower. Our team will advise on what is and is not permissible in your specific bathroom layout.
Yes, and this is something we do regularly across Oxford. Whether you are working with a bathroom fitter, builder or main contractor, our team can coordinate with other trades to ensure electrical work is carried out at the right stage of the project. First fix electrical work, including cable routing and back box installation, is completed before tiling and fitting begins, with second fix work, connections and certification completed once the bathroom is fitted. This approach ensures a clean, compliant result without delays to your programme.
All notifiable bathroom electrical work carried out by Assured Electricians Oxford is certificated on completion. Depending on the scope of the work, you will receive an Electrical Installation Certificate or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate, confirming the work has been carried out in line with current BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and Part P building regulations. This documentation is important for your records and will be required if you sell the property or need to evidence compliance for insurance purposes.
